A kitchen is the heart of a home, and with lots of designs and styles to choose from, it may seem difficult to start from scratch. Planning your ideal kitchen is really easy, and I rounded a few key things for you to consider:
Not only does organizing make your life easier, but it makes your kitchen look cleaner. I also love pull-out shelves and cabinets as they help you store and reach your items more easily, without needing to dig them all out.
2. Good lighting.
There are numerous ways to achieve good ambient lighting, but most importantly direct lighting is essential above worktops. As for me, I really like the built-in linear lighting upgrade!
3. Cleared Worktops.
Sometimes we worry too much about storage and appliances that we forget about keeping room for spacious worktops. So free your kitchen’s countertops by making use of vertical spaces as much as you can. I also love islands as they are versatile and great for large spaces.
I’ve seen so many people skip the extraction hood thinking that a window could do the job. But this is never enough, particularly in rainy days.
5. Practicality & Circulation.
The way you move around your kitchen is really important as it saves you a lot of time. So plan your different compartments accordingly.
6. Colors & Theme.
Although it all comes down to personal preferences, a kitchen’s mood must match the overall feel of the house. This is essential for open spaces. Read about my basic kitchen themes [here].
7. Right Materials.
Researching your materials durability can help you save lots of money and extend your kitchen’s life. For example, a marble countertop may look beautiful but it requires lots of care. It can scratch easily and due to its porous nature, food or detergent spillage can cause deep stains. Wood also shrinks and expands in contact with water, so it’s preferable not to use it in areas with high levels of moisture. It all comes down to you and how much maintenance you’re willing to commit to.
There are numerous ways to customize your kitchen and the results are infinite. But I hope these few simple guidelines will help you get the job done right!
